Moving House
Moving House - So, you finally decided to do it!
At the first glance, moving home is a simple process.
All you need to do is to pack your belongings, get the transport and give the keys to the new owner.
Unfortunately, this is the television version which is far from the truth.
Moving home is a serious logistics problem.
If you have a lot of money to spend then you can parade in the suite or cocktail dress while someone else is doing house removals for you.
However, for those less fortunate - brainwork and muscle work is the only answer to home removal.
Moving House - The Preparation
Home removal preparation is a tedious process where all fragile things need to be packed carefully.
Try to organise boxes of various sizes at least 1.5 months before the actual home removal.
If you take a work leave then house removal preparation is relatively stress-free.
However, for those who work full time the magic 1.5 or more months is the formula to succeed.
Remember, you may not have time to pack things every day. Most of the load will fall on weekends.
All non-vital plates, glasses, cutlery, toys and electronic equipment should be packed first.
Do not pack pillows and stuff toys separately.
All fluffy toys and duvets are great shock-absorbers.
These will work very well to protect fragile items.
Research in advance what transport you need for moving house.
You can hire home removal company or do it yourself by hiring a truck.
If you hire a truck then you need to try to book it a week before moving house.
Remember, there are other businesses which frequently hire trucks.
Finally, buy tools which you may need to use for house removals.
This is especially important when you move home by yourself.
Moving Home - The Loading
If you decided to save a lot of money on house removalists
and move house by yourself then you must book the truck for as early as possible on the moving day.
Do not try to hire expensive commercial movers.
For most home removal applications 5 tone truck is sufficient. At the end you may need to make few turns.
Each removal truck should have the pneumatic lift.
Also, you must have the trolley which can handle at least 200kg (a decent fridge can exceed this weight, so 360kg may be more appropriate).
The loading should be done by 3 people: 2 carriers and 1 arranging the stuff in the truck.
There is always certain amount of lifting involved, so everyone must respect the load they carry.
When the truck is full, make the trip. You may need to make 2 to 3 rounds but this is still cheaper then hiring an oversized vehicle.
Moving Home - The Unloading Process
What comes up, must come down! Yes, you need to unload the truck. The principle of 3 still applies here. That is, 2 people who carry and 1 to dispatch the belongings from the truck. Do not arrange your furniture in the new place. Ensure that the items are position in such a way that they do not obstruct the process of unloading.
Home Removal - The Final Stage
For the first day you must ensure that basics are available (fridge, food, toothbrush and beds). The furniture arrangement, unpacking glassware and other non-vital procedures can be done on the following days. Once you are done with all your unloading then... it is time for coffee!!! And... do not forget to return the truck on the following business day.
